Grand Master Hoover

Larry Hoover represents several decades of ATA leadership — progressing from instructor and competitor to Chief Master, then 9th Degree Grand Master. 

As a tournament host, mentor, as well as owner of Hoover's ATA Martial Arts in South Dakota, and a sitting member of the ATA Masters' Council, his influence extends beyond his own students through the instructors and senior leaders he has helped develop over the years.

Grand Master Kohl

Grand Master Jay Kohl is a legendary figure in the American Taekwondo Association, with more than four decades of dedication to Songahm Taekwondo. Beginning his journey in 1980 under Chief Master Larry Hoover, he went on to become a world champion competitor, ATA Hall of Fame inductee, regional leader, Headquarters instructor, and mentor to generations of martial artists. After more than 18 years of service at ATA Headquarters and a lifetime of dedication to the organization, Grand Master Kohl reached the rank of 9th Degree Black Belt in 2026 — a remarkable milestone in a career devoted to the growth and preservation of Songahm Taekwondo.

Chief Master Kohl

Chief Master Tish Kohl represents decades of dedication to the ATA and Songahm Taekwondo. From beginning her ATA journey in the 1980s, progressing through the ranks to 8th Degree Black Belt, and continuing to serve the organization at major international events, including helping organize and coordinate the Master's Ceremony,  her career reflects long-term commitment to leadership, tradition, competition, and the development of the ATA family.
